As a musician, I compose, record, and perform music rooted in mindfulness, that supports our connection to each other, and celebrates the natural world.
In the recording studio, I use electronic devices, synthesizers, acoustic instruments, and voices in various combinations. Using digital recording and editing techniques allows me to keep the acoustic sounds and instruments in their natural form or change them beyond recognition; to fill the music with intricate patterns, sound-colors, and flowing musical forms that build as organic structures or complex layers.
My creative process is influenced by my walks in nature, a deep connection to the piano, formal music training, and my experience as an improviser. When I perceive or hear music, it often comes to me as colors and geometric shapes, and I manipulate these in my mind, at the piano, and in the studio. Often during the creative process, a new awareness of underlying emotional and spiritual layers emerges. At other times, ideas simply flow and become a musical reality. I experience the most success when I release my own expectations and remove my ego as much as possible from the act of making music.
Through collaborating with others, I become a better person, and I’m fortunate to work with a variety of diverse visual artists, filmmakers, directors, and other musicians. Much of my work is a result of relationships built through trust and a shared vision of possibilities. Listening and communicating with an open mind from our individual discipline’s perspective to achieve our goals brings us to mutual understanding. This sharing and respect of each other deepens my value of diverse perspectives.
Through my music, I hope to inspire us to realize our potential, to think more deeply about our connection with each other and nature, and to work for the common good.
